Life is a creative act. We are always in the process of being and at the same time, becoming, and the reasons people come to therapy are many and varied. Generally though, people tend to choose counselling or psychotherapy when they’ve already experienced a good deal of frustration in attempting to sort things out, or think things through, for themselves.
Some people come to therapy through a ‘felt’ sense of something missing in their lives. Often it’s a feeling of emptiness, a lack of direction, or general dissatisfaction. Perhaps there‘s a sense of not living life to its full potential, or of not feeling able to be true to themselves in their particular life situation.
And many people come to therapy when they feel they’re just not coping as well as they thought they would, through any of the many life situations and transitions that can come to us as part of the common experience of our human condition.
At such times we can often benefit from the support of a nonjudgemental, objective ‘someone’ to confidentially talk things over with. I offer a no-charge, initial interview, where you can come and talk through whatever it is that’s bothering you, or holding you back. You should get some immediate assistance and clarity, as well as a sense of whether counselling, psychotherapy, or life strategy coaching would be helpful for you.
I work with individual adults in medium to longer-term psychotherapy and with couples: and with shorter-term counselling clients, and in Life Strategy Coaching. I’m very experienced in working with same-sex couples, lesbians and gay men, and sensitive to gender and multi-cultural issues.
Counselling or psychotherapy is an investment in ourselves. It’s not only about creating improved choices and awareness for ourselves in the here and now, but for all our lives.
To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly. -Henri Bergson
